Good practice for using your ethanol fireplace safely
- Burning ethanol produces CO2 and water, so it raises humidity in the room. And in a confined, poorly ventilated space, burning ethanol could be incomplete and give off carbon monoxide and polluting black carbon particles. We therefore recommend installing your fireplace in a well-ventilated room larger than 35 m².If you have no choice but to install your fireplace in a small room, leave the door open while it is burning.
- Choose a fireplace that meets the AFNOR NF D35-386 standard for ethanol fireplaces. You get extra assurance about the safety of the product.
- Light your bioethanol fireplace with a fireplace lighter or long matches. Ordinary short matches are not suitable. Light it from the side rather than from above, keeping a safe distance so you do not burn yourself.
- Take care never to bring clothing or any part of your body close to the flame.
- Before lighting the burner, make sure the fuel has not come into contact with your skin, and close the bioethanol can properly. Let your fireplace burn until the bioethanol runs out. If you put your fireplace out before it has burnt through, open the burner and wait at least 10 minutes so the trapped gases evaporate and the tank cools before lighting it again. And never refill your fireplace with fuel while it is running.
- Pay attention when filling the tank: do not light the fireplace if you have spilt bioethanol. Do not install your bioethanol fireplace near a sensitive spot, such as close to a gas inlet. Store your bioethanol somewhere away from your fireplace: cool, out of reach of any heat source, and out of reach of children and pets.
- Never fill your fireplace tank with an ethanol that is not specifically intended for it. Ethanol from a petrol pump, paraffin lamp fuel, gel ethanol or household alcohol are all out of the question. Use only fireplace bioethanol.
- Finally, handle your fireplace carefully during or just after use: the glass tends to get hot.
