Pur Ethanol: 200 trees in Brittany with EcoTree®

9 Oct 2026

Pur Ethanol is a brand of Nadal Alcools, a French family-owned company founded in 1835. Behind the fuel you use in your fireplace lies a company, a wealth of expertise and a history spanning almost two centuries.

In September 2026, Nadal Alcools took another step forward by purchasing its first 200 trees through EcoTree: young thuja trees growing in the Langonnet forest in Morbihan, Brittany.

This first purchase marks the beginning of a commitment that the company intends to renew every year until 2035, when it will celebrate its bicentenary.

An initiative led by the company behind Pur Ethanol

Pur Ethanol is produced and marketed by Nadal Alcools. The brand therefore benefits from the experience gained by our family business in the professional alcohol sector.

Since 1835, our company has grown through expertise passed down over generations, long-standing relationships with its partners and the trust of its customers. This history naturally encourages us to support long-term projects whose progress can be followed over the years.

With this in mind, Nadal Alcools chose to support a forestry project in France in partnership with EcoTree.

200 young trees in the Langonnet forest

The first 200 trees purchased are young thuja trees. They are growing in the Langonnet forest in Brittany under EcoTree’s management.

A forestry project is not simply about planting trees. It also involves selecting species suited to the land, protecting young trees, monitoring their development and supporting forest regeneration over several decades.

EcoTree provides this long-term monitoring as part of a forestry management approach that takes timber production, soil conservation and biodiversity into account. Its methods notably promote a mixture of species, natural regeneration whenever conditions allow and the maintenance of continuous forest cover.

Purchasing these trees therefore contributes to a project that is managed and monitored over the long term, extending well beyond the initial planting.

Contributing to carbon storage

As trees grow, they absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and store carbon. This is how forests contribute to natural carbon sinks.

By supporting the development and management of a forest stand, Nadal Alcools contributes to this process while also taking part in a project that benefits biodiversity.

However, this forestry initiative does not make Pur Ethanol carbon neutral, nor does it remove the need to reduce the emissions associated with our activities. We are also working on this issue alongside our commitment to EcoTree.

A commitment set to grow until 2035

These 200 trees are only the beginning. Nadal Alcools plans to purchase additional trees every year until 2035, when our family business will celebrate its 200th anniversary.

We intend to follow this initiative over time and regularly share the updates provided by EcoTree, including the growth of the trees, new purchases and the development of the forestry project.

The trust placed in Pur Ethanol and in Nadal Alcools’ various activities enables our company to develop initiatives like this one. Every order supports a family business that is preparing for its bicentenary while remaining mindful of what it will pass on to future generations.

200 trees have already taken root. And this is only the beginning.
